About

The ruins of Házmburk Castle are a typical and unmistakable dominant feature on the Czech landscape. The view from the isolated hill of the landscape of the Central Bohemian Uplands is unforgettable.

The twin peaks of Milešovka, the highest mountain of the Central Bohemian Uplands and the Gothic ruins of Házmburk Castle form an unmistakable backdrop to the lower Oder river.

The imposing castle on an isolated basalt rock was built in its present form by the Zajíc (Hasen) family, from whom the name comes.

After a turbulent history and several changes in ownership the castle fell into ruin. In the late 19th century, Házmburk became infamous for its extensive rockslides, which led to tales of the opening up of the mountain with marvellous treasures.

The ruins are among the most visited monuments in the Ústí nad Labem region, due to their romantic appearance and the distant views into the countryside from the high castle tower.

Children’s days and other fun events are organised every year.
